Christian Borrman first started looking at On Device Portals in 2001, as a simpler alternative to SIM Toolkit modofications or custom Phone Operating system variants for smaller runs of mobile phones within Mobile Operators and for Mobile Virtual Networks. Mobile Applications had already been around for a while, but PIM, mobile Email was on the horizon and Christian's First Mobile application was to handle just that, as well a conference room booking for large enterprises over the converged MVNO he set-up in 2001. Not only were these some of the first On Device Portals and Mobile Applications, but they were the first to use convergence, connecting over Bluetooth and the Mobile network.

Christian applied his expertise from 2007, rolling out some of the most widely deployed commercial applications in the shape of Nokia's Mobile Festival Guides, in three UK festivals of between 80,000 to 250,000 people, and was requested by over half of the visitors to the sponsor's event website.
